Mini Challenge: Start a food journal.
Okay, I know you are thinking that you know what you are eating, so why bother. Right? Just one more thing to add to the extra long list of things you are already doing. I know. I felt the same way. But truthfully until you record every morsel that enters your mouth, you aren’t being as accountable as you should be. Journaling what you eat does many things:
Helps you track progress.
Helps you pinpoint problem areas.
Helps you stay motivated.
These are my top 3 favorite perks.
When you keep a food journal and record things like what you eat, your energy levels, mood, and overall feelings of wellness, it will help you see how your diet is tied to your health. You will notice trends, see how far you have come, and see where you can make improvements. Grab a notebook and start today.
If a written journal is hard for you, consider an app. I am a total lover of old-fashioned pen and paper, especially for lists. However, an app is very convenient for when you are on the go. Check out this list of the Top 10 Food Diary apps available.
And let’s start today’s challenge off with a healthy recipe.
I love morning smoothies for several reasons:
- They are a great way to hydrate right off the bat.
- The chia in them helps you stay full longer
- They are packed with nutrients for a healthy start to the day
- They are light, and easy after a workout
- They taste great!
- 1 cup apple juice frozen concentrate
- 1. 5 cups frozen raspberries
- 1.5 cup frozen mango chunks
- 2 cups spinach
- 2 Tbs Chia seeds
- Put the frozen juice concentrate in your blender, followed by the raspberries, mangos, chia, and spinach.
- Fill your blender about 3/4 full of water (more if you like it thinner)
Our recipe card software calculates these nutrition facts based on averages for the above ingredients, different brands, and quality of produce/meats may have different nutritional information, always calculate your own based on the specific products you use in order to achieve accurate macros for this recipe.
Why Chia? Chia is amazing. It is no longer just for pets. Chia is great for stabilizing blood sugar, lowering your risk of heart disease, maintaining a healthy colon, and aids in weight loss, just to name a few of the awesome benefits. I love it, and use it all the time. Like in this great Chia Seed Pudding. You can learn more about chia here.
If you want to change this smoothie, feel free. Throw in extra veggies for a little extra something. Add some sweetener or a banana if it is too tart, or some greek yogurt to make it creamy.
Good luck with Day 1 of your challenge, be sure to come back tomorrow for the mini challenge for Day 2!
