Mouthwatering, insane flavor, in an easy, and delicious French Onion Soup slider. Perfect for watching football, or just a fun midweek meal!
I just got back from a week long trip with my kids to Paris. They speak French, which they learned in school, so I wanted to see how well they really speak, and let them experience some of the amazing wonders the world has to offer. I love travel, and think it is one of the best gifts you can give your kids. Well, anyway, I was flying home and had a layover at the airport. The airport is all kinds of crazy with people cheering and yelling. Basically the deciding games for the Superbowl were happening, and everyone is all hyped up about football, and I am all, oh… but Paris!
Anyway, I decided to embrace the SuperBowl madness with a touch of my Paris love by creating a French Onion Soup Slider! Nothing says football like sliders, and well, onions are just so nice! The result is the perfect game day food. It is all the beefy deliciousness you want from a slider with the rich flavors of caramelized onions and melty cheese! Basically it is amazing. But what makes it even more amazing is the artisan bread slider rolls I put them on.
I was not about to take the time to make them from scratch. especailly since our Super Bowl spread is usually pretty extensive. But I did not have to. Instead, I used Telera Take and Bake Sliders from La Brea Bakery. La Brea Bakery is the #1 selling artisan bread in the country, and I can see why. The sliders are hearth-baked, golden brown, and soft, but have a touch of sweet and a bit of sourdough. You can find them at Costco, Kroger, and a bunch of other stores. The flavor is awesome, and they couldn’t be any easier to use. Perfect for your Super Bowl party.
In fact, La Brea Bakery even sponsored a #SnackOn Super Bowl Sweepstakes where the winner got two tickets to the game, travel, and accommodations. Check it out here.
To make this recipe I prepared the slider rolls according to the package directions, and sliced them. Then handmade my burger patties. The patties were a lean ground beef with some onion, and other spices mixed in. And they were SO GOOD. Awesome flavor.
I did a quick caramelization on the onions, and fried up the patties in a skillet. If you have time, caramelize longer for greater depth of flavor.
When the patties were cooked and the onions were translucent with a hint of that golden brown, I assembled my sliders, added some cheese, I used a provolone (for the kids, as it is more mild) on some and gruyere on others (gruyere is more traditional for French Onion Soup). Honestly choose your favorite cheese, but a flavorful cheese is really nice.
Then I put it in the oven to broil for a few minutes to melt the cheese. It was awesome. I served it with french cornichon pickles (which you can buy at a normal grocery store), and added things like tomatoes and lettuce to the side for toppers. I did not use any kind of spread or sauce on this slider because the flavors were so awesome I did not want to screw with them. But my kids added ketchup. Haha.
I will be testing out my recipes for my football spread all week, and this one definitely makes the cut!
