2-3granny smith applespeeled and cored, and chopped (approx 2 cups apples, when chopped)
1Tbslemon juice
1/2cupDixie Crystals pure cane sugar
1/2tbscinnamon
1/4tspnutmeg
1/4tspcloves
1Tbssoftened butter
1egg white
2Tbswater
Dixie Crystals Powdered Sugaroptional
Candied pecans for eyesapprox 6 needed
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Peel, core, and chop apples
Toss apples with lemon juice, Dixie Crystals pure cane sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, and butter. Stir until well mixed and everything is coated.
Lay out pie crusts. Cut out the circles for the hand pies. You should get 3 per crust. 6 total.
Use remaining dough to cut strips to layer on top to form the look of a mummy.
Spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray, and lay 3 crust circles down. If you have a silicone baking mat lay your pie crusts on that. If you don't have silicone baking mats yet, you should get some, they make clean up so quick and easy!
Divide the filling between the crusts, with just under 3/4 cup filling in each.
Dip your finger in water and rub the outer edge of the dough with water, then lay the top crust on and seal the edges by pressing them together.
Take the candied pecans and push them in to form eyes.
Carefully lay the strips of pie crust over the top to layer and make it look like a mummy.
Mix egg white and 1 Tbs water together, and whisk with fork.
Brush top of pies with egg mixture.
Bake for about 20 minutes until crust is brown
Let cool 5 minutes.
Enjoy, or brush with butter and sprinkle Dixie Crystals Powdered Sugar over the top!
