You guys, these ribs are yummy-licious and take literally 5 minutes to prep! Then they sear in a hot oven, and cook to tender perfection in the slow cooker. This is the kind of dinner you will want to make over and over again because of its simplicity and flavor!
The key to this recipe is the process. This is a slow cooker recipe, but the slow cooker only does part of the work. Before you put the ribs in the slow cooker, you have to bake them at a high heat to seal in the moisture, and help them stay tender. The 400 degree oven helps sear the meat to keep it moist, and the slow cooker helps make it fall off the bone.
Additionally, how you season is going to add layers of flavor. If you want rich, intense flavors, you start with a dry rub, and bake. Then use a BBQ sauce, and slow cook. And finish with additional BBQ sauce.
I used KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce Mix & Dry Rub Sweet Honey. It is the perfect way to get tons of flavor without tons of work. The handy, 2 pouch, packaging means you can dry rub the ribs with one pouch, and make a BBQ sauce, customized to your preference with the other.
And boy is it good! While the ribs baked, I tossed the sauce ingredients in a blender and blended until smooth. So darn easy, and absolutely delicious.
The KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce Mix & Dry Rub Sweet Honey pouch served as the base and was joined by fresh pineapple, cola, and some lemon and lime juice. It is a slightly sweet tropical flavor that is both delicious and delightful on these pork ribs.
The whole time the ribs were cooking my mouth was watering. They smelled so amazing.
However, if you want the finished flavor to have intensity, and live up to the hype from the smell, you have to reserve some of the sauce to brush onto the ribs after cooking. Why is this important? Although the bake time will render out some of the fat, more will cook down in the slow cooker, and dilute the intensity of flavor. Thus, to really get your tastebuds singing, reserve 1/3 of the sauce to top the ribs after they are cooked.
If you do that you will find yourself with lip-smacking, finger licking, fall off the bone, intense flavor ribs you will want to inhale. This method of cooking means fall off the bone tender, and this method of seasoning means gobbling it right up!
I am pretty sure you will love this unique twist on a classic BBQ sauce! These ribs are awesome served with browned butter asparagus, mashed potatoes, and slow cooker corn on the cob!
