Smothered Sausage Parm Dogs: Smokey sausage with mozzarella and parmesan cheeses and Italian flavors, smothered in tomato basil marinara, sautéed onions and peppers, and fresh mozzarella cheese.
Grilling season is coming ever closer, and I can’t wait to take the cooking outside for a little grilling! There is just something about cooking on the grill that makes me so happy.
Huge flavor, low work, and very little clean up…maybe that is why I love to grill. Today’s recipe uses Guy Fieri Sausages, which are an awesome way to curb those hunger pains with a powerful flavor punch! Or as Guy says, with just one bite, you’ll be heading to “flavortown”!
As a parent to four kids, I love summers for the less chaotic schedules. However, the lack of structure can also be hard. Summer time usually means later bedtimes, messier living spaces, and kids (and let’s face it, a mama) who get pretty worn out from all the fun in the sun. Come dinner time we are all pretty tired.
But summer also means drive-in movies, fun impromptu trips, and plenty of family time. My favorite way to spend family time is gathered together around a delicious meal, talking, laughing, and dreaming of places we want to visit. Doing that while eating these delicious smothered sausage parm dogs is the way to go!
I am a huge fan of sausages and brats, and they are a regular part of our summer dinner rotation. I have tried a ton of different varieties, and I am thrilled to have found this new option.
The Guy Fieri Sausages are awesome. You can find them at Walmart, and they are available in Chicken and Pork varieties. They are natural hickory smoked. Offer fresh ingredients, and come in a package of 4-3 ounce links.
I love chicken parm, and when I saw that these sausages were stuffed with mozzzarella and parmesan cheese, that is immediately what came to mind. I am a traditionalist at heart, covering my sausages with mustard, ketchup, and plenty of relish. But I thought a sausage this special deserved some special toppers.
The marinara, sauteed onions and peppers, and fresh mozzarella gave these dogs a new life, and gave me a new perspective on dog toppers! I bought fresh basil to put on top too, as I LOVE basil, but I totally forgot about it, so if you want to add some on, I am sure it will taste amazing. I used a tomato basil marinara, but you could always use a traditional marinara if you want! Have fun with it.
On warm summer nights, I love sitting out back, dinner on the grill, kids on the trampoline, and plans for s’mores making in the works!
Having dinners like this on hand always make me smile because they are quick, easy, and so delicious! Leaving plenty of time to play with the kids, and enjoy the nice weather. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
