How to Make Boneless Turkey Roast with Herb Butter Rub

  1. Fully Defrost

Defrost Butterball Boneless Turkey Roast in the refrigerator for 24-48 hours ahead of time. Open fully defrosted Turkey roast, leave inside netting on, remove outside netting and plastic, and gravy packets.

  2. Prep Turkey Roast

Lift the remaining netting, so it is not imbedded in the meat, but leave around the roast.
Pat turkey roast dry with paper towel to remove excess liquid.

  3. Dry Brine Turkey

Mix together dry brine ingredients, and coat the turkey in the dry brine. Then place in baking dish. Cover with foil, and refrigerate for 2 hours.

  4. Herb Butter

Mix together herb butter and rub all over the dry brined turkey.

  5. Roast the Turkey

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Mix together herb butter and rub all over the dry brined turkey.
Roast turkey in oven until internal temperature reads 170 degrees F. About 80-90 minutes.

  6. Rest and Carve

Remove from oven and let rest in pan for 5 minutes.
Remove from pan to a cutting board, and let rest an additional 5 minutes.
Slice and serve with other Thanksgiving favorites from Walmart.

Serve it with all the traditional fixings:

Mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole!

Tips and Tricks

Making this recipe is Eazy Peazy, but here are some tips to make it fool proof every time…

  • Thaw Properly: You want a fully thawed turkey roast, so place unopened roast on a tray in refrigerator for 1½ to 2 days, or until thawed. To thaw faster, place unopened roast in cold tap water for 3 to 5 hours. Change water every 30 minutes to keep turkey cold. When thawed, keep in refrigerator until ready to cook. Cook within four days of thawing.
  • Keep The Netting: The turkey roast comes with a string netting surrounding it. Leave inner string netting on as this holds the roast together during roasting. However, it can be difficult to remove after cooking if you do not plan ahead. So before seasoning your turkey roast, lift the string netting and shift the position on the roast to make removal easier after cooking.
  • Fresh Herbs: Use fresh herbs for the herb butter rub, as it really does make a difference. But if you are in a pinch, dried is fine, just cut the amount down to about half.
  • Safe Leftovers: Refrigerate leftovers within 1 hour of eating. Use leftover turkey within 3 days.

Make Ahead and Storage

How to make this recipe ahead of time:

This recipe is pretty easy, and doesn’t take long, so if you want to prep ahead, you can mix the herb butter compound together up to 48 hours ahead. And the dry brine can be mixed up ahead as well.

However, one of the best ways to make this ahead is to simply use the slow cooker instead of the oven. Here’s how:

  • Thaw the turkey roast completely. And prepare as stated for oven roasting.
  • Spray bottom of the slow cooker with cooking spray
  • Place dry brined and herb butter slathered roast in the slow cooker.
  • Add ½ cup liquid, I suggest apple juice if you’d like a sweeter roast, or water.
  • Cover and cook on LOW up to 8 hours or on HIGH up to 4 hours, until a minimum internal temperature of 165ºF.
  • When internal temp is reached, remove from the slow cooker and let stand 10 minutes for easier carving.
