Popcorn Flavor Shakers
Popcorn flavor shakers paired with Butter Popcorn for a Pop-tastic family movie night, with popcorn flavors everyone loves!
While I was at Sam’s Club, they had one of those food demos, where you could sample the popcorn, and they had chopped up OREO cookies in it. The OREOS were chopped until they were really fine, and mixed into the popcorn while it was still hot. I loved it. The popcorn was sweet, salty, and buttery, with that yummy cookie crumbs stuck to the exterior. It was great, and gave me a really fun idea.
We love popcorn in our house, but we all have different tastes. I love the sweet caramel corn, while my hubby loves spicy taco flavors, and my kids love cheesy and salty. I figured the best way to accommodate everyone is with popcorn flavor shakers!
So I made different flavor shakers so we could all enjoy the added flavors we enjoy most, whether that is sweet, salty, spicy, or something in between!
Why Make Popcorn Flavor Shakers?
- Versatility: Popcorn flavor shakers offer a wide range of flavors, from savory to sweet, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
- Convenience: These shakers make it easy to add a burst of flavor to your popcorn without any mess or fuss.
- Customization: You can mix and match flavors to create your unique combinations, perfect for satisfying any craving.
- Healthy Options: Many flavor shakers are designed to be low in calories, making them a healthier alternative to traditional buttery popcorn toppings.
Creative Uses for Popcorn Flavor Shakers
- Party Favor Stations: Set up a popcorn bar at your next party with various flavor shakers for guests to customize their own popcorn.
- Movie Night Magic: Create a fun and interactive movie night experience by offering different flavor shakers for everyone to try.
- Gourmet Gifts: Package a selection of popcorn flavor shakers with some gourmet popcorn kernels in a gift basket for a unique and thoughtful gift.
Combing these flavor shakers with microwave popcorn, makes for the ultimate (and super easy) movie night, where the whole family is happy. And you guys, after pulling out all my spices (like literally all of them) it only took about 15 minutes to whip up all 7 flavors
The flavorings we made are:
- Taco
- BBQ
- Italian
- Cool Ranch
- Mexican Hot Chocolate
- Nacho (Cheese)
- Salted Caramel
Now we pop a bag (or a few) and everyone in the family can shake on their favorite flavors! It is glorious! I can’t believe I didn’t try this earlier.
How to Use Popcorn Flavor Shakers
- Pop Your Corn: Whether you use a popcorn machine, stovetop method, or microwave, ensure your popcorn is freshly popped and hot.
- Shake It Up: While the popcorn is still warm, generously sprinkle your chosen flavor shaker over it. Toss the popcorn to ensure even coating.
- Taste and Adjust: Start with a small amount and add more if needed. The key is to find the right balance of flavor intensity.
Storing Your Popcorn Flavor Shakers
- Cool and Dry: Keep your shakers in a cool, dry place to maintain their freshness and potency.
- Tightly Sealed: Ensure the lids are tightly closed after each use to prevent moisture from getting in.

What a great idea! My husband and I almost always want something different and this an easy way to make the same thing, but add our own flavors! I can’t wait to make some of them! #client
Rachael says
Thank you, they have been a big hit. We even made more for Teacher Appreciation week. It was great!
Jamey says
Making these for my son’s grad party. The amounts filled up each shaker nearly perfect and everyone who’s tasted them are impressed! Great recipes! Thanks!
Rachael says
Oh I am so glad to hear it! Thank you for taking time to comment and let me know!
Joi says
Will this work on non-microwave popcorn?
Rachael says
yes, it just needs something to stick to, so add some butter or oil so that it will stick to the popcorn!
Julie H says
is there a substitute for turbinado sugar?
Rachael says
You could just use regular granulated sugar, but it would not be effective. The turbinado sugar is a bigger crystal. More flavorful. You should be able to find it in most grocery stores or even Walmart.
Rachael says
I should say “as effective”. It would still taste great.
Mary says
I made a microwave popcorn gift set for my son for Christmas. I’m going to make some of these for him to use with it. I already have some old spice jars I saved.

I love it! I hope he loves it as much as my kids do.
Joyce Walker says

I make a doreto flavoered one with cheese powder, taco seasoning spices and tomato powder from the mexican seasoning isle.

Where do you get cheese powder?
Lynn says
Some of the recipes don’t have salt. That’s intentional?
Rachael says
Yes. Not everyone likes salt on popcorn. But you can of course add it if you would like.
Teresa says
I want to fill up small mason jars with the popcorn seasoning . Do I just double or triple the recipe to make more?
Rachael says
Yes, you just scale it to the size you need. Thanks
Grace says
These look DELICIOUS! I plan to make up a bunch today for family Christmas presents. Last year I did a Buckeye popcorn which was basically your Mexican Hot Chocolate minus the cinnamon and adding 2 TBS of PB powder. Thank you for sharing these recipes.
Rachael says
My Pleasure! Have fun making them. We love using them all year round.

My husband works at Ohio State University Hospital and every year I just fret making the gift bags for the nurses. I try to come up with an idea that, hopefully, everyone will enjoy. They don’t want cookies (crazy) I know it’s early in 2018 but these are going in the gift bags with some microwave popcorn. Such a cool idea.
Rachael says
Thank you Liz, I hope they love them as much as we do. I have made them as teacher gifts and they always seem to be a hit. But everyone loves popcorn, right?
deborah ellington says
How do you keep the brown sugar from turning hard? I tried it and could not shake out because the sugar was hard.
Rachael says
Oh I am so sorry to hear that. We always use them pretty quickly so I have not experienced that. Also I use air tight containers. The shaker jars I have used for teacher gifts etc. are these: https://amzn.to/2rpiY6T (affiliate) maybe that will help.
Heather Ratliff says
I love this idea. I’ve been searching for a mixture like the kettle corn seasoning I’ve bought at the store. I can’t find a recipe anywhere. Do you have any ideas?
Jackie says
I would love to make theses as a part of a family Christmas gift, approx how long is the shelf life on these seasonings?
Rachael says
If you have them in an airtight container I think they should be good for several months as they are all just dried seasonings mixed together. So as long as your ingredients you use aren’t too old, I would say 3-6 months.
