A fantastic protein packed chocolate german pancake, that is light, indulgent, and good for you too!
Oh my gosh you guys! I have been on a 30 day road trip, and I have been eating a lot of drive thru foods, and convenient foods. Which means, not so good for me foods. Not exactly the ideal foods for a healthy diet.
The belly fat is definitely starting to show, and I was thinking I should probably do something about that. But here’s the thing, I really don’t love the idea of “dieting” instead, I want to simply be healthier, and add foods to my regular routine that are going to help me reach my goals of firming up and slimming down.
And you know what that means!!! Protein!
One of the meals I have the hardest time getting enough protein in is breakfast. I am constantly looking for options beyond eggs and bacon for a protein packed breakfast. One way I like to do that is to take recipes that are typically high in carbs, and turn them into protein packed options.
At my house, the number one asked for breakfast is german pancakes, so I decided to try and take my traditional recipe, and make it healthier and protein packed.
And then I thought I’d make it chocolate. Because everything is better when it is chocolate flavored! So the first thing I did was get rid of the flour and the white sugar. Instead I replaced the flour with oats, that I ground into a flour in a food processor. As for the sugar, I went with a flavored protein powder. Then I went to Walmart and bought the protein. I got a couple different options from the EAS Complete Protein line of products. I got the Complete Protein Powder, and the Complete Protein Ready to Drink. I got both in the Chocolate version. I loved that the powder had the scoop in the lid so I didn’t have to put my fingers into the powder.
Just so you know, you get these in the health and beauty section of Walmart where you find supplements. It is usually by the pharmacy area.
Anyway, after replacing half the ingredients, I decided to go for broke and replace the milk with the Complete Protein Ready to Drink.
EAS is a great way to get protein, but it also has calcium, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, so it is great for the muscles, but also bones and the digestive system. And it tastes great.
I took my oats, my eggs, my EAS Complete Protein Ready to Drink, and my EAS Complete Protein Powder, and mixed it all up.
Then I baked it. It did puff up, but not as much as you might think. But don’t worry if it looks like brownies, just be happy! Because you get to eat it.
Then I sliced it all up!
And topped it! Feel free to top with whatever you want, I chose real whipped cream and sliced strawberries.
Then eat and enjoy!
I was worried it would not turn out, and truthfully it was not as “custard” like as our traditional german pancakes. And not quite as fluffy. But the flavor was right on, and it made for an excellent breakfast. If you want a fluffier version, beat an egg or two extra and mix in. Honestly it was good, and indulgent enough to feel like a dessert. In fact, I may just make this my go to dessert when I get a sweet tooth!
EAS Complete Protein can help with weight management and increase energy, so it is great for after a workout, as breakfast, or as a dessert because it contains all those good for your nutrients that helps you be your best you. And this amazing chocolate way of using it rocks!
