Slow Cooker Lemon Blueberry Granola
Crunchy, sweet, lemon, blueberry granola made in the slow cooker, and flavored with essential oils!
You guys, this slow cooker essential oil lemon blueberry granola rocked my socks!
Not only is it stupid easy to make, and tastes amazing, but it is really really good for you. Lemon essential oils are full of powerful antioxidants, and help to support the nervous and sympathetic nervous systems. So it is easy peasy, tastes good, and it is good for you. In my book that is a HUGE win.
So, let’s talk about essential oils for a minute…
I think of essential oils as a rather polarizing subject. At least here in Utah where I live. Chances are you know someone who uses essential oils, and you probably know the running joke about how if you have a cold and post about it, everyone you know who uses essential oils will come out of the wood works.
The thing is, while it is a bit of a joke, there is a reason so many people love and believe in essential oils. To be honest, I fall somewhere in the middle, I like them, and I am experimenting with them, and I can’t wait to explore them further. The more I use them, the more I see the benefits. However, I have had both good and only so-so experiences with essential oils.
I have used them topically to help with skin stuff, I have used them on my hands when I had a run in with some super spicy jalapenos and my skin was on fire, and I love the aroma therapy uses of them like the lavender. However, one of my favorite ways to use oils is in cooking. It is an easy and flavorful way to get super-healthy ingredients into your diet without any hassle. And you know me, I like things to be easy peasy!
Essential oils are the chemical constituents found in aromatic plants that protect the plants from organisms and microbes that may invade them. These oils help plants heal, carry nutrients to the plant cells, and more. When these plants are distilled, the oils are more potent and flavorful than the same plants that are dried, so for example, an oil oregano is going to be far more potent than dried oregano in cooking. And the oils can offer you some of the same benefits it offers plants, such as healing and better cellular function.
So, not only does using essential oils in cooking help add flavor, but it can also increase your health, boost immunity, and more.. I realize some of you may be skeptical, and trust me, I was too. However, if you think about it, you are already using (eating) essential oils if you chew gum, eat chocolates, or brush your teeth. Every time you eat something that uses herbs such as oregano or basil, you are getting the flavor from the essential oil in the plant. So you are already using it, you just don’t know it, and over the next few months I am going to show you how to use essential oils in a more efficient way, and in a way that will improve your health and the flavors of your food!
Sounds pretty great, right?
One thing to keep in mind, and that I simply can’t overstate is the importance of using the highest grade essential oils when cooking. This will help insure you do not get oils with toxins, synthetic chemicals, or carcinogenics. Do your research.
