In this smoothie I used the wild orange essential oil. Now you might remember from the Slow Cooker Lemon Blueberry granola I shared last week that I am new to oils, and I am testing them out. I have found I really like them for cooking and use in recipes. I like the flavor and health they can add to food, and I really like the ease of adding health to a recipe with just a few shakes of a bottle.

This wild orange essential oil may just be my favorite. It smells good…which let’s be honest, not all the oils do. Haha! But it also tastes great. I have been adding it to my water for a few weeks now. It has made a huge difference for me as I stink at drinking enough water, and it makes it a lot easier to get my allotted amount.colada orange smoothie

Anyway, I love the taste and smell, but I also love some of the health benefits of this particular oil. For one it can help fight off colds and flus in the early stages. A lot of oils are anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, and this one is no exception.

I also love that it is energizing, and can even be an antidepressant. With four kids keeping me running all the time, I definitely benefit from the energizing properties. While it is good in water, it is great in this smoothie. Seriously great, I love the extra burst of flavor it adds.

In addition to the wild orange oil, there are other good-for-you ingredients. The coconut and greek yogurt give this smoothie protein, which is needed for healthy skin, nails, and muscles. Protein is key to starting your day off right, helping you feel full longer, and giving your body what it needs for repair, as well as hormone and enzyme production. When you combine this with the antibacterial and anti-fungal properties you get a fantastically healthy, and super tasty way to start your day.
