At the start of 2014 my husband and I joined a weight loss challenge. I only had about 15 lbs to lose, and had never before “dieted” or worried about my weight. But, being a food blogger, I cook a lot, I eat a lot, and I love my treats. The pounds were starting to hang on, and while I still looked good, I did not love how my clothes were fitting, or the direction I was heading. And so we decided to make a change.
One of the hardest changes for us was the treats. We decided that rather than “diet” we would clean up our eating habits. We went to whole foods. We skipped the white flours, sugars, and anything that was processed and refined. (And we are still doing it). The plan was/is to do this for 8 weeks, and then gradually allow a treat here or there, but stick with a veggie packed, white-flour free existence if we could help it. But boy did I miss things like Peanut butter Cup Cupcakes and Caramel Banana Cakerolls. I also love ice cream and milk shakes. So I made this dairy free milkshake so I could have a healthy treat when the cravings hit.
