Want the perfect holiday party recipe? Well I have it for you. I am so excited about today’s post. I seriously feel a little giddy. Why? Well, before I tell you, let me give you a little background.
I have a high school friend, we’ll call him D, and he is from Mexico City. He and I have been friends for about as long as I can remember. One year, shortly after my husband and I got married, we were visiting him in San Diego, and for some reason we decided to go to Tijauna. I think my husband had never been, and since D is Mexican we thought he would be the perfect person to take us.
Anyway, we drove down in D’s Camero. It was a crazy adventure, and one I won’t soon forget. At one point we got pulled over. But anyway, eventually we decided we needed to get something to eat, so we went to this little restaurant, and I ordered a hot chocolate with my breakfast. It was my first time trying Mexican Hot Chocolate and I was enamored.
And these hot cocoa truffles taste just like that memory!!! How? Because I went to Walmart and picked up some Tabasco sauce, and used the Tabasco Chipotle sauce in them. It is perfect. It is not hot, but instead adds that rich, smokey, chipotle flavor to the semi-sweet chocolate.
This is bound to be a holiday favorite.
During the holidays my kids and I always try to do lots of festive things. We visit the reindeer, we go see Santa, we drive around and look at lights, we take gifts to the neighbors, and if we don’t like those neighbors we even carol!! Haha just kidding…sorta.
One thing that is always part of our celebrations is Hot Chocolate!!!! I love it. Like Love it. Layer on the cream, whipped cream, and extra toppings, stir it with a peppermint spoon, and I am in heaven. Which is why these hot chocolate truffles are the perfect holiday party treat for me. They can be eaten as a goodie, or stirred into a cup of steaming milk to warm up after a day of playing the snow.
They are perfect for time spent with the family around a fire. Or make a lovely addition to delicious party food.
They are so versatile. My kids love helping to make them, and rolling them in the different garnishments, so I think they are the perfect neighbor or teacher gift too because they kids can be part of the making and giving.
Plus they are super easy to make. Melt your chocolate with heavy whipping cream and a dash of Tabasco, chill, roll into balls, and then roll in your favorite garnishments!

I plan to make some Chipotle and Dark Chocolate cookies for a cookie exchange and my mom thinks I’m crazy. 🙂 I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks the spicy/smoky flavor will work with chocolate!

What a great idea to add Tabasco to truffles! {and I’ve been known only to carol to certain neighbors as well!} #client
