A super easy to make strawberry chia seed jam that is raw, healthy, and has no preservatives, added sugar, or bad for you junk!
I love a nice slice of toast with jam on it, or a peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwich, but often the jams you can buy come filled with sugar, artificial flavorings, and preservatives that frankly aren’t great for your health. Now clearly I am not fanatic when it comes to health, but I have found that taking small steps to make super easy changes, like trading store bought sugar-laden jam for a healthy, raw, and ridiculously easy alternative can do wonders for health and energy levels. Especially when I add in some essential oils. (If you have wuestions about essential oils, leave me a note in the comments).
My favorite essential oil to work with is lemon. With four little kids running me ragged, I need the burst of energy and mood enhancement it offers. And when you add in things like improved digestion, nourished skin, and cleansing and purifying, well it is a huge win! Then combine all that amazingness with a super powerful food like chia seeds, which are rich in omega-3s, ultra high in fiber, and a great source of protein, calcium, manganese and phosphorus! All of which are key for good health.
This jam has tons of fresh flavors, and tastes awesome on breads, mixed into oatmeal, or even over ice cream (though that might cancel out the health benefits). And you make it right in your food processor, with almost no hassle. And, depending on how sweet your berries are, no need for added sugars.
How great is that for kids? You do not have to blend it in your food processor, but it helps eliminate the little seeds which make it feel a little “seedy”! My kids are used to chia, because we use it all the time, but if you aren’t into chia, or have texture issues, then giving it some extra pulse time will help to eliminate that problem.
The chia seed itself is amazing for you and because it expands to 8 times it size, this jam will be nice and thick, and full of amazing flavor! The lemon from the oils makes it taste fresh, the strawberries keep it sweet! Delish.
