It is starting to get a little cooler and I can’t wait for all the fall recipes to come. Squashes, Stews, Soups….Piiiies…..Hot Choooocolate! Hot Chocolate tends to be my midnight splurge, and I love making this Healthy Cinnamon Hot Chocolate because it makes me feel less guilty about having that urge to snack on something sweet so late at night. It tastes pretty amazing in itself, but with whipped cream and some crumbled up sliced almonds it becomes the most delicious hot chocolate you will have ever tasted. Promise!
I made this recipe with a splurgy adult in mind, so it is a “big” hot chocolate.. And a big hot chocolate needs a big mug to fit it. I like these mugs because they come with the saucer that goes with the whole hot chocolate experience. But it is obviously a great snack or treat for children as well. You might want to serve a child only half the amount because chocolate is a stimulant and I’m sure you don’t want your kids all hyped up, at least not right before bed time.
What I love most about this Healthy Cinnamon Hot Chocolate is that it requires a couple a few extra special steps to prepare which makes it an extra special treat.
I like treats for which I had to work a little. They are so much more rewarding. I keep imagining a grandma in a vintage kitchen heating up the milk in a dented copper pot, adding cocoa powder with a wooden spoon, whisking the cream by hand…..Of course, I am only 33, we are in 2016 and I have a modern kitchen. I used a regular stainless steel pot to heat the milk, had I a microwave I probably would have even used that, and the cream was whipped by my electric hand mixer but I still love that there is “some” work required to make this deliciousness and I’m sure you will, too.
For more midnight splurges check out my granolas over on Green Healthy Cooking, they typically make my kitchen smell wonderful around 10 pm. Plus, I have the bonus of having breakfast ready for the kids the next morning. Granola and hot chocolate go together SO WELL!!
