You might as well be eating dessert for breakfast!
This fun twist on a traditional french toast had my kids going crazy for breakfast. I am always looking for ways to add more fruit and vegetables into my kid’s diet, and while this also adds butter, it was a fun way to spruce up an otherwise boring breakfast while adding more fruit in.
For this recipe, I used my favorite french toast batter, which includes things like sour cream and cream or half and half. Then I topped it with cream cheese and cooked and seasoned apples. It tasted like apple pie! Yum.

This makes the perfect brunch food, or holiday breakfast. It comes together quickly, and steps your breakfast up a notch without a lot of effort. I prefer granny smith apples, as they are both sweet and tart, adding a burst of fresh flavor to the french toast. However, you could replicate this recipe with any apples you have on hand.
If you are looking for a lower fat option, use a low fat cream cheese, or skip it entirely. Also, feel free to skip the syrup, it has plenty of flavor without the added calories. My kids loved it, and I loved having a way to use up the halves of apples that always seem to litter my counter, as my kids will cut one and only eat half, leaving the other half for “later” which never comes. Whether serving your kids, or using this at a holiday gathering, I sincerely hope you will enjoy this french toast as much as we did.
