Caprese Flatbread

If you love the classic flavors of a Caprese salad, you’re going to fall in love with this easy Caprese Flatbread. Fresh mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, basil, and balsamic glaze come together on a crispy flatbread for a simple appetizer, lunch, or light dinner that tastes like summer in every bite.

Using a prepared dough to make your flatbread keeps things quick and easy, while a layer of Trader Joe’s bruschetta adds incredible flavor with almost no prep work. A few minutes in the Gozney pizza oven transforms the flatbread into a crispy, bubbly masterpiece, and a final drizzle of balsamic glaze and some fresh basil brings everything together.

Whether you’re entertaining guests, looking for a quick weeknight meal, or simply craving something fresh and flavorful, this Caprese Flatbread is always a winner.

Why You’ll Love This Caprese Flatbread

Flatbread is such a simple and amazing appetizer, this Blueberry Goat Cheese Flatbread for example, feels fancy, but is so simple. And this caprese flatbread checks the same box:

  • Ready in minutes
  • Fresh, simple ingredients
  • Perfect appetizer or light meal
  • Easy to customize
  • Great for summer entertaining
  • Uses convenient store-bought shortcuts

This recipe proves that sometimes the simplest ingredients create the most memorable dishes.

What Makes This Flatbread So Good?

The secret is layering fresh ingredients with a few convenient shortcuts.

Prepared Bruschetta: Trader Joe’s bruschetta provides a flavorful base made with tomatoes, garlic, basil, and olive oil.

Fresh Tomatoes: Fresh tomato slices add juicy texture and vibrant flavor.

Fresh Mozzarella: Creamy mozzarella melts beautifully and creates that classic Caprese experience.

Fresh Basil: Added after baking, basil provides freshness and a beautiful pop of color.

Balsamic Glaze: The sweet tanginess of balsamic glaze perfectly balances the creamy cheese and bright tomatoes.

What you need to make a caprese flatbread

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Prepared pizza dough or a flatbread
  • Bruschetta Sauce (Trader Joe’s is my recommendation, but any you like works)
  • Fresh tomatoes
  • Fresh mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic glaze

That’s it! Just a handful of ingredients for a restaurant-worthy flatbread.

How to Make Caprese Flatbread

Step 1: Prepare the Flatbread

Start with a prepared flatbread or a prepared pizza dough. Shape it, place it on a pizza peel with some corn meal, and cook in the Gozney Pizza Oven, rotating it for even cooking, until baked (about 2 mins).

Step 2: Add the Bruschetta

Spread a thin layer of Trader Joe’s bruschetta over the flatbread, leaving a small border around the edges.

Step 3: Add Tomatoes and Mozzarella

Scatter fresh tomato slices and pieces of fresh mozzarella evenly across the flatbread.

Step 4: Fire in the Pizza Oven

Transfer the flatbread to your preheated Gozney pizza oven and cook until the crust is crisp and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Rotate the flatbread as needed for even cooking.

Step 5: Finish and Serve

Remove from the oven and immediately top with torn basil leaves. Finish with a generous drizzle of balsamic glaze before slicing and serving.

Tips for the Best Caprese Flatbread

Don’t Overload the Toppings: Too many toppings can make the flatbread soggy. A light layer works best.

Use Fresh Mozzarella: Fresh mozzarella provides the creamy texture and flavor that makes Caprese recipes so special.

Add Basil After Baking: Fresh basil can burn quickly in a pizza oven, so it’s best added after cooking.

Rotate Frequently: Pizza ovens cook quickly and can have hot spots. Rotating ensures even browning.

What tomatoes work best? Cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, or sliced Roma tomatoes all work well.

Can I prepare it ahead of time? You can assemble the flatbread a few hours ahead, but it’s best baked just before serving.

How do I store leftovers? Store leftover flatbread in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in the oven or air fryer for best results.

Serving Tip
For extra flavor, finish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
