Halloween Cupcakes: Ghost Cupcakes

This Halloween surprise your little ghouls and goblins with a fun, but super simple to make Halloween cupcake idea–ghosts. There are tons of ways to make ghost inspired cupcakes, but these are my favorite because of the simplicity!

Halloween Ghost Cupcakes

These Ghost Cupcakes are literally 3 ingredients:

  1. Cupcakes
  2. Vanilla Buttercream
  3. Chocolate Chips

Cupcakes

The cupcakes can be store bought, homemade, or from a box mix. It really doesn’t matter for the look of the cupcake, but of course we want it to look and taste great, so you may want to make it homemade. I love using this chocolate cake recipe and adjusting it for cupcakes.

If you want to buy cupcakes from your local bakery you can call ahead and ask for them without icing. Most bakeries are happy to sell you unfrosted cupcakes. Of course, if you forget to call ahead, or don’t have time to, you can look for cupcakes with a flat single color icing, and just assemble the ghost on top of it.

A boxed mix is a great way to make the cupcakes for these ghost cupcakes as well. You can go with your favorite flavor, and even opt for an extra moist variety if that is what you want.

No matter how you go about getting your cupcakes, just make sure you have some for this fun Halloween Cupcake idea.

Vanilla Buttercream

While I think buying your cupcakes is perfectly acceptable, I would say you probably want to homemake your buttercream. First it will taste better and second you can control the consistency better.

You are going to want a nice thick icing so it holds its ghost form.

I love this chocolate buttercream icing recipe, and you could easily adapt it to be vanilla.

Chocolate chips

You can use big or small, I prefer a classic size, as I think it is the perfect size for the ghost eyes, but of course, have fun with it. I know my kids love getting creative and using different sized chips.

Getting the Look for the Halloween Ghost Cupcakes

Making your ghost cupcakes is easy. Simply fill a piping bag with the icing, and using a large round tip, pipe a tall mound of frosting in the center of a cupcake. When you get to the end, pull the tip up and away to create a peak. Add chocolate chips for eyes. Enjoy!

How great would these be for a Halloween Class Party? Easy, fun, and kid-friendly.

My first time making cupcakes with frosting and they were so delicious. Mine were nowhere as cute as yours but the taste made up for the appearance. Thank you.
