What You Need For Easy Stromboli
- 1 bag of frozen dinner roll dough (12 count)
- 30-40 pepperoni slices
- 1 cup Deli Sliced Mild Pepper Rings
- 1/2 lb pepper-jack cheese
- 1/2 cup cotija cheese (optional)
- 2 Tbs olive oil
- 1 Tbs garlic seasoning
- Marinara dipping sauce (for serving)
How to Make Stromboli
- Thaw and Rise the Dough: Take the dinner rolls out of the package, spray with non-stick spray, cover, and let thaw and rise for about 2-3 hours. (Tip: Pull them out at lunchtime so they’re ready by dinner.)
- Prepare the Dough: Smush all the rolls together to form one big batch of dough. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough flat into a rectangle shape.
- Layer the Fillings: Place a layer of pepper-jack cheese, either shredded or sliced, leaving about an inch on either side. Add a layer of pepperoni, followed by Mezzetta Pepper Rings, and sprinkle with cotija cheese if using.
- Roll and Seal: Roll the dough into a long log, pressing to seal the seam. Brush olive oil over the top and sprinkle with garlic seasoning.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the stromboli for 40 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Cut into even slices and serve with marinara dipping sauce.
Tips and Tricks
- Dough Options: While this recipe uses frozen dinner roll dough for convenience, you can also use bread dough or pizza dough. Each offers a slightly different texture and flavor, so feel free to experiment to find your favorite.
- Cheese Varieties: Pepper-jack cheese adds a nice kick, but you can substitute it with mozzarella for a milder flavor or provolone for a different twist. Cotija cheese is optional but adds a delicious, salty finish.
- Sealing the Stromboli: Make sure to press the seam well to prevent the fillings from leaking out during baking. You can also tuck the ends under to secure them.
- Garlic Seasoning: Feel free to customize your garlic seasoning by adding Italian herbs, grated Parmesan, or red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
Substitutions
- Meats: Swap pepperoni with salami, ham, or cooked sausage.
- Vegetables: Add or substitute with bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, or spinach.
- Cheeses: Use cheddar, gouda, or any of your favorite melting cheeses.
Storing Leftovers
Stromboli leftovers are just as delicious! To store, wrap the slices in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place them in an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3 days. To reheat, place slices in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes, or until warmed through. You can also reheat in a microwave, though the crust may not stay as crispy.
What to Serve with Stromboli
- Marinara Sauce: A good homemade marinara sauce is perfect for dipping each slice.
- Salad: A fresh green salad with a light vinaigrette balances the richness of the stromboli.
- Roasted Vegetables: A side of roasted broccoli, bell peppers, carrots, or zucchini adds a healthy touch to the meal.
- Soup: Pair with a bowl of minestrone or tomato soup for a comforting dinner.
Stromboli is a versatile and something kids and adults like, that’s easy to make and customize. Whether for a quick weeknight meal or a fun weekend treat, this recipe is sure to become a family favorite. Enjoy!
