Sloppy Joe Pizza Rolls

Sloppy Joe Pizza Rolls! For this recipe, you can make your own sloppy joe mixture, or use Manwich sloppy joe’s, then put it in a fun pizza roll form that is super easy to make, and only takes about 20 minutes!

sloppy joe, manwich, pizza roll up

You know how people love things like Taco Tuesdays? Well how about starting a tradition of Manwich Mondays? I mean think about it…what better way to kick off the week than with something that tastes great, that kids and adults both enjoy, and that is easy peasy to make?

Now I know what you are thinking…but I don’t think my family would eat sloppy joes every single Monday! But they don’t have to. While traditional sloppy joes are certainly one way to use Manwich, there are tons of recipes and a wide variety of uses for this heart sauce with a sweet and tangy, finger-licking-good taste. You can make everything from traditional Sloppy Joes, to Saucy Meatloaf, Baked Sloppy Joe Cups, Sloppy Joe Casserole, Sloppy Joe Tacos, Sloppy Joe Meatball Subs, and more at Manwich Mondays Recipes. I used the sauce for Manwich Sloppy Joe nachos a while back, and it is still one of my family’s favorites.

Sloppy Joe Pizza Rolls are the perfect blend of two comfort food favorites—Sloppy Joes and pizza. Whether you’re making your own Sloppy Joe mixture from scratch or using a can of Manwich with ground meat, these rolls are sure to be a hit at your next family dinner or gathering. Here’s how to create these delightful treats, along with tips, tricks, and variations to make them your own.

What You Need to Make Sloppy Joe Pizza Rolls

For the Sloppy Joe Mixture

  • Homemade Sloppy Joe Mixture
  • Or Use Manwich:
    • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
    • 1 can of Manwich

For the Pizza Rolls

  • 1 prepared pizza crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, avocado, sliced green onions, pickles, jalapeños
  • Olive oil for brushing

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Sloppy Joe Mixture

  1. Homemade: Follow the instant pot instructions, or make it in a large skillet.
  2. Manwich: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground meat until browned. Drain excess fat. Stir in the can of Manwich and simmer for 5-10 minutes.

Step 2: Assemble the Pizza Rolls

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the Crust: Roll out the prepared pizza crust into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  3. Top with Mixture: Spread the Sloppy Joe mixture evenly over the pizza crust.
  4. Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top of the Sloppy Joe mixture.
  5. Roll and Slice: Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the crust into a tight log. Slice into 1-inch pieces and place them cut-side up on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Bake: Brush the tops of the rolls with a little olive oil. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Step 3: Finish and Serve

  1. Top with Fresh Ingredients: Once baked, top the rolls with optional fresh toppings like fresh lettuce, sliced green onions, pickles, or jalapeños for an added kick.
  2. Serve: Serve hot and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • Rolling Tips: For easier rolling, use a slightly chilled dough and don’t overfill with the Sloppy Joe mixture.
  • Cheese: Use a combination of cheeses for a richer flavor. A mix of cheddar and mozzarella works great.
  • Slice Evenly: Use a sharp knife or dental floss to slice the rolls evenly without squishing them.
  • Prevent Sticking: Line your baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent the rolls from sticking.

Storage

  • Refrigerator: Store any leftover rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Freezer: Freeze the uncooked rolls on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Different Meats: Use ground chicken, turkey, or even plant-based meat substitutes.
  • Add Veggies: Sneak in extra nutrition by adding finely chopped vegetables like carrots, zucchini, green bell peppers, garlic, or mushrooms to the Sloppy Joe mixture.
  • Spicy Kick: Add some heat with chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Different Cheeses: Try different cheeses like pepper jack, provolone, or gouda for a unique flavor twist.
  • Alternative Doughs: Use crescent roll dough or puff pastry for a different texture.

Sloppy Joe Pizza Rolls are a fun and tasty way to enjoy a classic favorite in a new form. They’re perfect for busy weeknights, parties, or any time you want to indulge in a comforting, crowd-pleasing dish. Try out different variations to make them your own, and enjoy the delicious fusion of flavors in every bite.
