I used sausage, bell peppers, and onions, but the beauty of this recipe is that you can customize it with whatever toppings your family loves. Pepperoni? Absolutely. Mushrooms? Go for it. Ham and pineapple? If that’s your thing, I’m not judging. 😉 And I might even ask for a slice.
It’s an easy, family-friendly dinner that makes pizza night feel a little more fun.
Why You’ll Love Slow Cooker Pizza
No pizza dough required. Refrigerated biscuits make this recipe incredibly simple while adding a soft, fluffy texture.
Customize it however you want. Use your family’s favorite pizza toppings or let everyone create their own combination.
No oven required. The slow cooker handles the cooking, making this especially nice when you don’t want to heat up the kitchen.
Perfect for busy nights. A few simple ingredients come together for a dinner the whole family will be excited about.
Ingredients
- Refrigerated biscuits, cut into bite-sized pieces
- Pizza sauce
- Mozzarella cheese, shredded
- Cooked Italian sausage
- Bell peppers, diced
- Onion, diced
- Additional pizza toppings of your choice
How to Make Slow Cooker Pizza
1. Prepare the toppings
If using sausage, brown it in a skillet until cooked through. Drain any excess grease.
Dice your peppers and onions, or prepare whatever toppings you’re using.
2. Layer the biscuits
Spray the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
Cut the refrigerated biscuits into bite-sized pieces and arrange them in the bottom of the slow cooker.
3. Add the pizza sauce
Spoon pizza sauce over the biscuit pieces, spreading it around so everything gets coated.
4. Add your toppings
Sprinkle the cooked sausage, peppers, onions, and any other toppings you’re using over the sauce and biscuits.
5. Add the cheese
Top everything generously with shredded mozzarella.
Because what’s pizza without plenty of cheese?
6. Slow cook
Cover and cook until the biscuits are cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Cooking times can vary depending on your slow cooker, so check the center to make sure the biscuit pieces are fully cooked before serving.
Let it sit for a few minutes before scooping and serving.
Pizza Topping Ideas
This is where you can have some fun! Try:
- Pepperoni
- Italian sausage
- Cooked bacon
- Ham
- Canadian bacon
- Bell peppers
- Onions
- Mushrooms
- Black olives
- Jalapeños
- Spinach
- Pineapple
You can even make half of the slow cooker one flavor and the other half something completely different.
Tips for the Best Slow Cooker Pizza
Cut the biscuits small. Bite-sized pieces cook more evenly and make the finished dish easier to scoop. However, it works fine without cutting them too, so if you are in a hurry, just go for it.
Don’t overload it with sauce. Too much sauce can make the biscuits soggy. You want enough to give everything that classic pizza flavor without drowning the biscuits.
Cook your meat first. Sausage, ground beef, bacon, and other raw meats should be fully cooked before adding them to the slow cooker.
Don’t open the lid constantly. Every time you remove the lid, heat escapes and cooking time increases. Try to keep the lid closed until you’re ready to check for doneness.
Let it rest before serving. Give the pizza a few minutes to cool and set before scooping. This also makes it easier to serve.
Can I Use Any Type of Biscuit?
Yes! Refrigerated biscuit dough works well for this recipe. Regular, buttermilk, or flaky-style biscuits can all work.
The important thing is to cut the biscuits into relatively small, evenly sized pieces so they cook through.
Can I Use Different Cheese?
Absolutely. Mozzarella is the classic pizza choice, but you can mix things up with:
- Provolone
- Parmesan
- Cheddar
- Monterey Jack
- Italian cheese blend
For the ultimate cheesy pizza flavor, use a combination of mozzarella and Parmesan.
What to Serve with Slow Cooker Pizza
Since this is already a pretty hearty meal, I like to keep the sides simple.
Try serving it with:
- Caesar salad
- Italian salad
- Fresh fruit
- Roasted vegetables
- Garlic bread
- A simple green salad
And don’t forget a little extra pizza sauce or ranch for dipping!
This is pizza night without the pizza dough, oven, or delivery fee. 🙌
Grab a can of biscuits, your favorite sauce, some cheese, and whatever pizza toppings are hanging out in the fridge, and you’ve got a fun dinner the whole family can customize.
Because sometimes the best kind of pizza is the kind that practically makes itself. 🍕
