Turkey bratwurst grill pouch is a succulent recipe for homemade turkey bratwurst, bursting with veggies and flavor!

Perfect for those summer BBQ get togethers.

A Facebook Fan requested a recipe that uses Turkey Bratwurst, and so we went in search of one.

I just so happened to have some turkey bratwurst on hand, so I chose this particular recipe because I had all the other needed ingredients, but there are so many fun options, pastas, plain (on a bun), served with potatoes, couscous, quinoa, and more.

What is your favorite way to eat turkey bratwursts?

If you love turkey meat as much as I do try these other turkey recipes like Creamy Green Chili Turkey and Egg Enchiladas, Turkey Taco Avocados or Cheesy Turkey Zucchini Casserole.

Brats are a great food, they make me think of ballparks, summers, and sunshine. That might be a big part of their appeal.

I was first introduced to them by my husband’s family, and have since found I have a bit of a love affair with them.

They are just so darn tasty. There is so much flavor packed into them.

I am also a big pickle/relish lover, so any excuse to eat relish.

But if you haven’t tried brats, consider it. Make them a bit healthier by adding in lots of veggies, like this grill packet!

It is easy to make, only takes a few minutes, and is a healthy option for feeding your family!

What is a bratwurst?

It’s often paired with sauerkraut and is usually grilled, seared or smoked.

Bratwurst is also referred to as “brat”, the German sausage is generally made with pork and veal, but beef can also be used. It’s seasoned with a variety of subtle flavors like caraway seeds, coriander, ginger or nutmeg.

What you need to make turkey bratwurst grill pouch

  • Turkey Bratwursts- main ingredient that has all the flavoring!
  • Mini sweet peppers- small and bite size with loads of flavor.
  • Onion- crunchy, strong texture and taste for an added flavor.
  • Yellow squash- tender, sweetness added to the mix.
  • Olive oil- helps cook the vegetables to tenderness and adds flavor.
  • Parsley- is a little bitter but does add to the turkey bratwurst recipe.
  • Garlic powder- is simply salt plus garlic powder
  • Chives- great flavoring.
  • Salt and Black pepper- for extra seasoning and taste.

How to make turkey bratwurst grill pouch on the grill or in the oven:

  • Preheat grill or oven: place on preheated grill or bake at 425 for 20 mins
  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl
  • Wrap in Foil
  • Cook on preheated grill or in the preheated oven: Place on preheated grill, and cook, flip at about 8 minutes so as not to burn, and watch carefully.
  • Cook until cooked through: cook until veggies are tender, and bratwurst are cooked through.

Tips for making turkey bratwurst

  • Use tongs instead of a fork when moving the brats around. You don’t want to puncture them letting out all the juices.
  • Prepare the ingredients together and let sit for an added 3 to 4 hours to soak in all the flavors.
  • Make sure to turn your brats frequently while grilling over medium heat.
  • Closing the lid while grilling will help minimize flare ups which will cook them evenly on the grill.
  • This can be made in the oven or on the grill.

What goes good on a bratwurst?

Grill brats until golden brown and serve immediately.

While you traditionally serve brats on fresh baked brat buns with sauerkraut, onions, green peppers, ketchup, and/or mustard for the ultimate flavors, these grill pouches are loaded with flavors that take bratwursts from ball park to dining room!

What is traditionally served with a bratwurst?

Then serve the brats on hot dog buns and provide mustard, ketchup, and relish, and the grilled onions and peppers.

Sauerkraut also goes well with brats.

Side dishes that go best with a bratwurst are coleslaw or macaroni salad, grilled corn on the cob and some baked beans.

Recipe title says "with Quinoa" but I don't see it in the instructions.

Simply a mis-titled recipe. I started with one idea, then as I was making it I changed it, and obviously neglected to change the recipe title. Thanks for pointing it out to me!
