We can all agree one of the best parts of a party is the food, right? And appetizers reign supreme for things like Football parties, New Year’s Eve parties, and even baby and bridal showers.

We have different appetizers we like for different events.

For example, when watching the big game: Buffalo Wings, Cheese Bites, and Texas Trash Dip are the best!

A baby or bridal shower might require something a little more refined: Crudite Platter with Roasted Veggies, Spinach Dip, or Stuffed Mushrooms!

And a holiday party can have a nice mix, including these Caramelized onion, fig, and goat cheese bites!

Hey all! Sam back from The Culinary Compass here to bring you your new favorite holiday appetizer. Caramelized Onions, Fig, and Goat Cheese Bites are easy enough to throw together half an hour before your party.

They’ll be sure to be a crowd pleaser too. Any time I’ve made these, they’ve been gone minutes after I put them on the table!

These Caramelized Onions, Fig, and Goat Cheese Bites have a great tanginess from the goat cheese and sweetness from the figs and caramelized onions. I love topping them with really earthy herbs like thyme and rosemary as well. There’s no better topper than balsamic glaze to really make the dish look and taste even better!

Since the goat cheese doesn’t melt all that much, the bites may be a little dry without the balsamic glaze. You could always try it with a little brie if you’re not a goat cheese fan!

I love making Caramelized Onions, Fig, and Goat Cheese Bites in mini muffin pans because they create little cups for all the toppings to make sure and not to fall out of! If you don’t have one, you can still bake them on a cookie sheet with the small squares or rectangles that you cut out.  Using silicone mini muffin pans is a great way to make clean up super quick and easy!

Tips for making Caramelized Onion, Fig & Goat Cheese Bites:

  • For the sake of time, I didn’t put any egg wash on my puff pastry. If you have time, adding an egg wash to the puff pastry will add an even more gorgeous golden brown color to them.
  • Be sure to poke the bottom of each of the puff pastries with a fork. Not doing this may cause the puff pastry to get a little too big and lose all of the inside toppings!

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbs butter
  • 1/2 onion cut into slices, about 1 cup onion
  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed, and cut into 24 equal pieces.
  • 4 dried figs diced, about 1/4 cup
  • 1/3 cup Crumbled goat cheese
  • 1/2 Tbs dried thyme
  • 1/2 Tbs dried rosemary
  • Balsamic glaze to drizzle

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add in onion and stir to cover in butter. Stirring occasionally, allow onions to caramelize, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Spray a mini muffin tin with cooking spray. Place a piece of puff pastry in each of the muffin tins. Use a fork to poke holes in the bottom of each so they don’t puff too much.
  • Place caramelized onions, dried figs, goat cheese, and a pinch of thyme and rosemary on each.
  • Bake for 13-15 minutes until puff pastry is golden.
  • Remove from pan and drizzle with balsamic glaze. Serve warm.
  • Check out these drizzle spoons! Your guests will think you are so fancy if you let them drizzle their own balsamic glaze on their bites with these spoons.
