Ingredients For Crinkle Cut Fries

  • 4 large organic russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (for soaking)
  • Water and ice (for soaking)
  • 2 tablespoons seasoning mixture of choice (Cajun, garlic herb, Mrs. Dash, or seasoning of your choice)

Tools Needed for Crispy Crinkle Cut Fries

  • This is the exact crinkle cutter I use from Amazon.
  • Baking sheet
  • Cutting board or mat
  • Bowl for soaking

How to Make Crinkle Cut Fries

Step 1: Prep and Soak the Potatoes

  1. Slice the Potatoes: Rinse and dry each potato thoroughly. Then using a crinkle cutter, cut potatoes into “fries” Cut into thin, even slices, then lay flat and cut into fries. A crinkle cutter, is needed to create the signature crinkle shape.
  2. Soak for Crispiness: Place the crinkle-cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water with ice cubes and sea salt. Let soak for 20 minutes.
  3. Dry the Potatoes: Drain the water, pat the potatoes completely dry, and let them sit on paper towels for 30 minutes to an hour to completely dry out. This step ensures maximum crispiness. You can shortcut it if in a hurry, but may not get as crisp of results.

Step 2: Bake the Fries

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Season the Fries: In a large bowl, toss the dried potatoes with olive oil and your seasoning mixture until fully coated.
  3. Bake to Perfection: Spread the fries out in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 35-40 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the fries are golden and crispy.

Or Air Fry the Fries

  1. Preheat air fryer to 400°F.
  2. Place fries in the air fryer basket, leaving space between so they can get crisp, you will have to cook in batches.
  3. Air fry for 20 minutes, shake air fryer or flip fries half way through cook time.

Step 3: Serve and Enjoy

Remove the fries from the oven and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce—ketchup, mayo, or ranch. Or try something new like Tomatillo Dressing!

Tips for Perfect Crinkle Cut Fries

  1. Use the Right Potatoes: Russets yield crispier fries, while Yukon Gold offers a creamier texture. Do not use red potatoes, as they are too starchy and won’t give you what you want for a fry!
  2. Don’t Skip Soaking: Soaking removes excess starch, which is the key to crispy edges. Even if you can’t soak the full 20 minutes, at least soak it for some.
  3. Space Matters: Arrange the fries in a single layer to ensure even cooking. Give space between fries if possible to allow for air flow and drying of the edges to get crisp, instead of steaming.
  4. Experiment with Seasoning: There are so many fun variations and flavor profile ideas for these crinkle cut fries. Try garlic Parmesan, paprika, or even a sprinkle of smoked salt for a gourmet twist.

Storing and Reheating

  • Store Leftovers: Keep fries in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat for Crispiness: Reheat in the oven or air fryer at 375°F for 5-7 minutes to restore their crunch.

Why Crinkle-Cut Fries?

The ridged texture not only makes them fun to eat but also creates more surface area for crispiness and seasoning. Whether paired with a juicy burger or enjoyed as a snack, these fries are guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

Get ready to dig into the best homemade Crinkle Cut Fries ever—crispy, golden, and oh-so-delicious. Once you try them, you might never go back to store-bought again!
