Witches Brew
Witches brew, and slimy stew, rats, and monsters, and a wrinkled up shrew! Ah! Halloween! One of my favorite days of the year.
I love celebrating, and am so excited to get dressed up, and have fun as a family, complete with a spooky table spread. This witches brew is a fun way to enjoy the holiday with the whole family, and is the perfect addition to a BOO bundle! Whip up a cauldron of this brew for your own little goblins and monsters!
Pair it with Chili for dinner, and Monster Cupcakes or Skeleton Cupcakes for dessert. Or serve it at a party with a Skeleton Veggie Tray, Brain Cheeseball or Pumpkin Puke Guac.

Let’s talk about Halloween. Classic movies like Ghostbusters® are a huge part of my Halloween tradition. As is BOO’ing. I have a vivid memory of being BOO’ed for the first time as a kid. I remember hearing a knock at the door, and racing to see who was there. When we opened the door no one was there, but there was a treat, and a card.
We had been BOO’ed.
So we hung the sign in our front window to let the world know, and started scheming, planning who we would BOO, how we would be sneaky about it, and how to make sure they didn’t catch us. We evaluated things like driveway lengths, and bushes to hide behind, and views from the front windows.
It was a magical experience, and one I wanted to repeat with my own children. I wrote all about it in this post where I share a recipe for BOO Bark if you want to learn more! But this year, I thought it would be fun to use Ghostbusters® as part of our BOO’ing tradition, since I am totally a kid who grew up in the “Who ya gonna call…” generation!
Boo Bundle
We have been BOOing as a family since my kids were little. And every year they get super excited to come up with what will be in that year’s BOO bundle and who we are going to surprise with these fun treats. I used to spend time a ton of time designing a BOO card, but now I don’t have to. I can just download and print one from BOOitForward.com. Awesome! And huge plus that it is Ghostbusters® theme! I love seeing Slimer on there!
I highly recommend you try it. BOO’ing It Forward is super easy, there are just 3 steps:
- Make a BOO Bundle. (Which I will show you how to do)
- Secretly Deliver it.
- BOO it Forward.
When it comes to a BOO bundle can really put anything you want in it. The idea is to treat someone to some fun. Walmart has everything you need to create a BOO bundle, or you can shop from home at Walmart.com to grab all the essentials!
I love to include something a little personal in the BOO bundle, so this year, we are putting all of our normal things, like the SNICKERS®, TWIX®, Skittles®, and Ghostbusters® Rice Krispies Treats®, but then I thought I would include a recipe for this Witches Brew, along with everything needed to make it, so the recipient can enjoy their BOO bundle as a family, activity included.
I added some fun cups, and straws, and spooky things to make it even more fun. And of course, presentation is a huge part of the experience, so creative and functional packaging from American Greetings® was a must!
To make a BOO Bundle:
- Treats:
- SNICKERS® Fun Size
- M&M’S® Fun Size
- TWIX® Fun Size
- Skittles® Original Fun Size
- Starburst® Fun Size
- Rice Krispies Treats®
- American Greetings® treat or candy bags
- American Greetings® Halloween stickers or decals
- Ghostbusters® items
- American Greetings® cellophane
- A fun bowl, pumpkin, or cauldron to hold it all in
- Ribbon for tying
- Extras: Cups, straws, plastic spiders
- Witches Brew RECIPE card (Below, just hit print and include it in the basket)
- Witches Brew Ingredients: It is fun to make labels for them! Kids get a kick out of it!
- Ghost Slime (Lemon Lime Soda)
- Essence of Evil (Seltzer Water)
- Ground bones of a giant (A drink mix)
- Bloody Eye balls (Jar of Marchino cherries)
- Worms, spiders, and creepy things (Gummy candy)
Then assemble, deliver, and let the BOO’ing fun begin.
Wouldn’t you want to open your door to this? It was hard for my kids to part with the bundles this year. But knowing this would be a real challenge, we made one for us too.
Once our BOO bundles were made, we dressed in dark clothes, and drove around to the neighbor’s houses in our old neighborhood to surprise them with these treats. My youngest had a hard time staying quiet, so I am pretty sure a few people knew it was us! Either way it was a blast.
You have to try it!
Witches Brew
And besides including it in the BOO bundle, be sure to make this fun Witches Brew for yourself! It is very tasty! And super easy to make. And if your kids are anything like mine, they’ll get a real kick out of making it and calling the cherries “Blood shot eyes”!
Enjoy!

Your excitement has me ready to go out and BOO. We haven’t done this as a family yet, but I know my boys would love surprising their friends.

Boo! These are excellent ideas for all these Halloween treats. And a good excuse to buy some of the bags of mini candy bars I adore.
