What Is Dill Sauce Made Of?
Dill sauce or dill dip is really easy to make. It does not require chopping a bunch of ingredients. Also, it is not loaded with an endless amount of spices because the dill in itself packs quite the punch of flavor.
Ingredients in a Basic Dill Dip or Sauce:
- Dill (of course)
- Sour Cream
- Mayo
- Garlic
- Lemon Juice
I love a good dill veggie dip and this dill dip recipe is far from anything basic.
While the steps are easy and basic, the ingredients provide a dip with a little more added flare than just your basic dill dip.
What makes this Dill Dip Recipe Different:
- Cream Cheese
- Heavy Whipping Cream
- Green Onions
- Dill Pickle
- Dill
- Garlic Powder
After school my kids come home starving.
They are always rummaging through the cupboards for a snack and they never just want a plate of vegetables.
However, with this delicious dill dip, a plate of vegetables is instantly dressed up and my kids can’t get enough of it.
The cream cheese, heavy cream, and additions of garlic powder really take it over the top.
What Does Dill Dip Taste Like?
If you have never had dill dip, you are in for a treat.
It is a creamy dip that offers a zing of flavor from the dill and a good balance of spice from the garlic. It partners well with pretty much all vegetables and is great as a spread on sandwiches too.
Basically it tastes like pickles meet a cream cheese dip! Only better.
This recipe is rich, creamy, tasty, and offers a great flavor profile. This dill dip recipe kicks it up a notch from your basic dill dip by adding dill pickle and green onions.
Instead of sour cream and mayo this dip uses heavy whipping cream and cream cheese which is softer, and adds a creaminess that lets the pickles really shine.
How Long Does Dill Dip Last?
I had to do some research to be able to come up with the answer to this, as in our house the dill dip is eaten up far too quickly to worry about storing. It is just so good.
Eat as a snack with veggies, as an appetizer, or maybe even as a lazy light dinner, dill dip will not last long in your house.
While we may not eat all the dip in one sitting at our house, we will get it out of the refrigerator and finish it up before it goes bad.
But if you want to make it ahead, or happen to have leftovers, keep in mind, dill dip stored in an air tight container in the refrigerator can last up to 4 days.
Can Dill Dip Be Frozen?
While you can refrigerate dill veggie dip and store it that way, I don’t recommend freezing it.
Just like with dairy based soups, dairy based dips, may experience a change in consistency when defrosted. Now that makes for a less appetizing dip, in my opinion.
Just eat you dill dip over the course of four days and if you have any left over, after day 4, throw it out.
This isn’t really a recipe you need to make ahead as it comes together quickly. Dill dip is easy enough to make, you can easily make another batch the next time you are in the mood, rather than attempting to freeze it, defrost it, and brave the unappealing result.
What Can Dill Dip Be Used For?
Dill is a fun spice to work with and there are actually a handful of things that pair nicely with this spice. Specifically chicken, salmon, vegetables, crackers, etc.
How To Use this Dill Dip:
- As a dip for veggies and crackers and chips.
- As a spread for sandwiches. Really good for veggie sandwiches like a cucumber sandwich.
- As a topping for baked salmon.
- As a dip for chicken skewers.
What Dips Are Healthy?
Okay so spoiler alert, not all dips are healthy. I know I took it hard too.
The thing is when choosing a dip you have to think about what your main objective is. When I make this dill dip I am thinking about a fun appetizer for a get together or a yummy snack.
Most appetizers aren’t healthy, but I am also not eating appetizers every day either. It’s more about the day to day habit. Therefore, when I make this dip I choose to enjoy it because I know I am not making it or eating it every day.
