How to Make Cheese Ball Jack O Lanterns
- Prepare the Ingredients: Let the cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese come to room temperature. This makes it easier to mix the ingredients together.
- Mix the Cheeses: In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan or feta cheese, mayonnaise, dry mustard, white pepper, and lemon juice. Mix until well combined and smooth.
- Chill the Mixture: Refrigerate the cheese mixture until it is firm, which should take about an hour. This step is important for shaping the cheese ball later.
- Shape the Cheese Ball: Once the mixture is firm, take it out of the refrigerator and form it into a ball. You can use plastic wrap to help shape it smoothly.
- Create the Jack O’ Lantern Face: Place the olives on the cheese ball to create the eyes and mouth of the Jack O’ Lantern. You can get creative with the placement and expression.
- Coat with Crushed Chips: Roll the cheese ball in the crushed Nacho Cheese Doritos until it is fully coated. This gives the cheese ball its vibrant orange color and adds a delightful crunch.
- Add the Stem: Stick the baby dill pickle into the top of the cheese ball to create the stem. Depending on the size of the pickle, you may need to cut it to fit properly.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve your Halloween Cheese Ball Jack O’ Lantern with an assortment of crackers, veggies, or chips. It’s perfect for dipping and spreading.
Tips for Success
- Room Temperature Cheese: Ensure your cream cheese and shredded cheese are at room temperature before mixing. This helps achieve a smoother consistency.
- Firm Up Time: Don’t skip the chilling step. It’s crucial for shaping the cheese ball.
- Crushing Chips: For best results, crush the Doritos finely so they adhere well to the cheese ball.
- Creative Faces: Have fun with the olives! You can create different expressions to make each cheese ball unique.
Substitution Ideas
- Cheese Variations: Feel free to experiment with different cheeses. Pepper jack, Gouda, or even a smoked cheese can add a unique flavor twist.
- Spice Level: If you like a bit of heat, add some cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the cheese mixture.
- Crunch Coating: Try other flavored chips or even pretzel crumbs for a different crunch and taste.
This Halloween Cheese Ball Jack O’ Lantern is not only a delightful centerpiece for your party but also a tasty treat that everyone will love. Enjoy the festivities and have a spooktacular time!
I cut the recipe in half because we weren’t making this for a party, just for fun for the family, and we certainly did not need more cheese than that! So feel free to do the same.
