Watermelon Lemonade

When the summer heat rolls in, there’s nothing quite as refreshing as a chilled glass of Watermelon Lemonade. This delightful blend of sweet watermelon and tangy lemonade, with a hint of mint, is perfect for cooling down on a hot day. And it is so easy to make. So serve it at your next backyard BBQ, picnic, or make it for sipping while relaxing at home.

This Watermelon Lemonade is the ultimate thirst quencher, and goes awesome with Tomato Burrata Salad and Grilled Chicken Thighs for a totally summer meal!

Watermelon is one of the best parts of summer, whether you eat it in a salad, like this Seared Watermelon Salad or Jicama Watermelon Salad, or eat it as a dessert like this Watermelon Slush, it is the perfect summer go to. And this lemonade is no exception. You will find yourself making it all summer long!

What You Need for Homemade Watermelon Lemonade

  • 1 recipe of Homemade Lemonade or 64 ounces of pre-made lemonade.
  • 3 cups fresh watermelon (see below for how to select a ripe watermelon)
  • 4-5 mint leaves
  • Ice
  • Lemon slices and watermelon chunks for garnish

How to Make Watermelon Lemonade

  1. Prepare the Lemonade: Follow the directions for your homemade lemonade recipe and set it aside.
  2. Blend the Watermelon and Mint: Add the fresh watermelon and mint leaves to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  3. Strain (Optional): For a smoother lemonade, pour the watermelon-mint mixture through a fine strainer or sieve into a pitcher.
  4. Combine: Add the prepared lemonade to the pitcher with the watermelon-mint mixture. Stir to combine.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Add fresh watermelon and lemon slices to the pitcher for a pretty presentation. You can add ice to the pitcher or pour the watermelon lemonade over cups of ice to avoid dilution.

Trust me, you want to garnish, it just takes this drink up a whole new level, and make it so fun!

  • Pick the Perfect Watermelon: Choose a watermelon that feels heavy for its size, has a uniform shape, and a creamy yellow spot on one side (this indicates ripeness). The sweeter and tastier the watermelon, the better the lemonade will be.
  • Mint Leaves: Slightly bruise the mint leaves before blending to release more flavor. You can smack them or muddle them a little to get this result.
  • Adjust Sweetness: If your watermelon is particularly sweet, you might need less sugar in your lemonade base. Taste and adjust as necessary.
  • Serve Chilled: For the best flavor, chill the watermelon lemonade in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. Or serve over ice.
  • Ice Glasses Not Pitcher: Add ice to your glass, not your pitcher, so as not to dilute the lemonade.
